SMA Annual Awards: Nominations Now Open
The Saskatchewan Medical Association is accepting nominations for its 2026 Annual Awards. These awards celebrate physicians, residents, and medical students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, excellence in patient care, service to others, and meaningful contributions to the medical profession and their communities.
Innovation Fund series: ‘Our physicians have reached a point where additional nursing support is essential.”
Dr. Audrey Van Zanten and the team at Acadia Medical Clinic are undertaking an Innovation Fund project designed to significantly improve patient access to care, reduce wait times, and strengthen chronic disease management. The project’s primary focus is the addition of 1.5 FTE nursing positions, allowing for improved patient flow, reduced administrative burden, and timely follow up for one of the largest chronic disease populations in the Saskatoon area.

Innovation Fund Job Opportunities
The Fund approved 34 medical clinics from across Saskatchewan, whose projects aim to meet unique needs of Saskatchewan communities and build the foundations for family physician-led, team-based care.
Projects supported by the Innovation Fund are driving change in family physician clinics across Saskatchewan and opening the door to new career opportunities.
Patient’s Medical Home
Saskatchewan’s healthcare system is evolving to ensure that every resident has access to comprehensive, tailored, high quality, team-based primary care through the development of Patient’s Medical Homes (PMH) in Health Networks. PMHs are family medicine clinics that provide patients with longitudinal or continuous care across all life stages and are supported by a connected, interdisciplinary care team.
Patient Rights & Responsibilities Poster
The SMA and CPSS have developed a resource poster for Saskatchewan Physicians to hang in their offices to help patients, physicians and staff understand patient rights and responsibilities. This poster will help physicians navigate disruptive patient behaviours, and an invitation for patients to better understand what is expected of them and their physician.
